ANIMAL lovers across Oxfordshire are being urged to don whiskers, ears and a tail to help set a new world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as cats.

Charity Blue Cross needs 500 willing supporters to dress head to toe as a cat at their rehoming centre in Burford to smash the record.

The attempt will take place on Sunday, May 14, during a family fun day at the centre on Shilton Road.

To be counted as part of the record attempt, people will need to have a full cat costume including ears, tail and whiskers, which may be painted on their face.

Jenna Martyn, Blue Cross Burford centre manager, said: “We are looking forward to seeing lots of people putting their best paw forward on the day.

“Not only will we be bidding for a new world record but also raising awareness of the work Blue Cross does and funds to help our charity continues its work across the country.”

Alongside the record attempt, there will be a fun day for all the family with a dog show, fun fair, live music and games from 11am to 4pm.

Entry to the fun day is £1, which will go towards helping Blue Cross continue its work helping sick and injured pets. Children under the age of 16 get free entry.

To take part in the world record attempt, people need to register in advance via bluecross.org.uk. They will then receive a welcome pack and information about the day.
