ADMIRABLE veteran Pete The Feat raised the roof at Sandown on Saturday with victory in the Matchbook Racing Is Commision Free Handicap Chase.
The 14-year-old was pulled up at Exeter on his previous start but gained his second victory at the course this season with a heartwarming triumph under Jonathan Burke.
Despite being pressed all the way up the run-in, the Charlie Longsdon-trained 9-1 shot found just enough to repel Horatio Hornblower by a neck.
The Chipping Norton handler said: “I was almost shedding a tear when I was speaking to the television.
“He is just as hard as nails and he loves Sandown.
“He ran a shocker at Exeter but he saves everything for Sandown. The Veterans’ Final will be the plan.
“We might as well dream to go for it again and there is no need to retire him after that.
“He gets into a nice rhythm here. He jumps from fence to fence and sticks his neck down.
“The stands were all cheering for him as he came through. It makes you tingle down the spine and shiver.
“What a star he has been.”
