A CO-OPERATIVE in southern Oxfordshire have less than a week to meet a fundraising target to launch a pop-up shop.

Faringdon Unwrapped are aiming to raise £3,735 to buy stock and equipment which they will use to spearhead an effort to make their community plastic free, with zero waste shopping.

The group, which is looking to launch the shop in September, write: "Our vision is to give everyone the option of buying ethically sourced and environmentally sustainable food- without the excess packaging. You'll be able to bring your own containers and we'll fill them with loose refills of pasta, rice, dried fruit, nuts and cereals - as much or as little as you want."

Aiming to clean up the community around the town - which is north of Wantage - it has so far raised more than £1,800.

This weekend, it added £434 to the total, from a stall at Follyfest selling raffle tickets to win a zero waste hamper and Follyfest reusable cups.

But it still needs over a third of its target by the weekend.

The group write: "As a brand new community group, we're fundraising to get the co-op off the ground. A lot of hard work and goodwill has gone into the group so far, but we need a cash injection now to step things up a gear and bring zero waste shopping to Faringdon.

"We are looking to start the co-op on a shoestring budget. We're sourcing as much equipment as possible secondhand. This is perfect for our ethos of reducing waste - it helps our finances too.

"However, we do need to raise £3,735 to buy our initial order of stock and the equipment that we've not been able to source by alternative means."

The group list exactly what the money will be spent on.
