STILT walkers and face painters brightened the city centre at the opening of a new bank.
Metro Bank officially opened its new branch in Oxford's Queen Street yesterday, with a mini street party complete with live music.
The ribbon-cutting was carried out by Lucy Walker, community fundraising manager at Helen & Douglas House hospice.
Metro Bank said it asked the hospice to get involved, in recognition of its work in the Oxford community.
Mary Clarkson, Oxford City Council's executive board member for culture and city centre, said: "I'm delighted Metro Bank has shown confidence in the strength of Oxford city centre and is opening a branch here.
"This will be an excellent addition to Queen Street, not least because Metro Bank provides a new range of banking services which will reach a wider cross-section of Oxford’s communities."
Iain Kirkpatrick, managing director of retail banking at Metro Bank, added: "The banking revolution has officially arrived in Oxford and the response among residents and businesses has been incredible.
"Oxford as a city has such energy, and I’m delighted that we’re going to be part of such a vibrant community: providing local people with real choice when it comes to their banking."
In June the city council gave planning permission for Metro Bank to open the branch, which is beneath accommodation for Christ Church students.
