STORYTIME has had a multilingual makeover in a new app developed in Oxfordshire.

A digital series of bilingual books called Unuhi has launched, helping children to learn a new language in an engaging way.

The illustrated stories present two sets of text on each page, sharing the same words but in two different languages.

Users can choose from 20 different languages in any combination, and children can read them alone or have family members read to them.

The app was jointly developed by photographer Mark Bassett, web developer Simon Greenland and app developer Charlie Kozeny-Pelling, from Kidlington, Long Wittenham and Wootton near Abingdon respectively – pictured here at Oxford's Story Museum.

Mr Bassett said: “Bilingual books have been around a long time but there hasn’t been an app - there is nothing like this out there.

“There are lots of language learning apps but this goes back to storytime and reading, or parents reading to you.”

The trio are keen to speak to illustrators, authors and schools interested in collaborating.

The app is free to download and the first story is free. For more information see unuhi.com
