ADMISSIONS forms for Oxford's new Swan School are now live on its website.

The Marston secondary school still plans to open in September 2019, despite being denied planning approval earlier this month.

Oxfordshire County Council's admissions for 2019 secondary school starters opened last week, and the Swan School's separate process opened yesterday.

Families set to apply to the academy must submit the form in addition to three separate preferences applied for via the county council.

The council's entries close on October 31.

The River Learning Trust, which will run the Swan School, said that applications will not influence the council's own separate process.

Successful pupils can then choose between the Swan School and the council's own allocation.

In a guidance document on its website, the county council states: "Planning permission [for Swan School] has not yet been granted.

"Therefore, there is no confirmation that the school will open in September 2019 as planned.

"Parents should refer to the website for The Swan School for the latest information.

"It will be possible to apply for a place at the school (register interest) for Year 7 in September 2019 via this website until

October 31.

"However, places will only be allocated if it is confirmed the school will open.

"It is vital that a secondary school transfer application for a place at one of the existing secondary schools in Oxfordshire is made as well or instead.

"We anticipate that there will be a high demand for secondary school places in Oxford city in 2019 and therefore advise parents to use all three available preferences.

"We are also working with existing schools to ensure additional places will be made available in case The Swan School does not open."

A shock decision earlier this month saw Oxford City Council's planning committee reject plans to build the 1,260-pupil school off Marston Ferry Road.

But the refusal could be overturned at a meeting in October, after several councillors 'called in' the planning application.
