OXFORD United may be second from bottom of League One, but they are top of one young fan's league.

After John Barrett tweeted a photo of his daughter Maya, five, in yellow and blue leg casts yesterday, the club invited her to a game as a special guest.

Maya, who will have tendon transfer surgery next week to treat bi-lateral congenital talipes equinovarus, will sit in the managers' dugouts pre-match and see behind the scenes.

United extended the offer in a tweet through its official Twitter account, leaving the young fan 'going bananas', according to Mr Barrett.

Her condition, once called club foot, is a deformity of the foot and the ankle and means she has been in and out of casts since birth.

Mr Barrett said: "It’s up and down for her, she tries her best to lead a normal life and to look at her without her casts you wouldn’t even know she has a disability.

"We have to give her extra care at night as she struggles to get a good nights sleep due to pains in her feet."

The family, from Oxford, are all U's fans and Mr Barrett and brother Henry will be at the sold out Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City tomorrow.

The pair are season ticket holders and have taken Maya and sister Eva, seven, to the Kassam Stadium several times - but the girls will not be going every week anytime soon.

Mr Barrett said: "We limit to a degree the games we take the girls to as their mum's concerned they pick up on swearing in the East Stand."
