AN Oxford Brookes graduate who recently won £1,000 of funding for his reusable coffee cup hire company has officially launched the OneCup brand back at the University.

The company provide coffee shops with reusable cups for customers to borrow and aim 'to reverse the habit of single-use disposable food or drink containers by replacing them with quality reusables’.

Founder and director Harrison Hall, 27, convinced judges at Venturefest Oxford last week that his project was worth the investment, ahead of the launch at Brookes.

He said: "Launches are always running around the place fighting fires but it was really successful - we got a lot of positive feedback from staff and students saying they really like the idea.

"There were a few quizzical faces at first but once they get the concept they're supportive - its great."

Eight cafes at the University are partnering the company, which charges members a £1.99 monthly subscription.

OneCup revolves partly around an app, developed by Mr Hall’s business partner Jamie Simms, which allows members to see which coffee shops are part of the scheme.

Mr Hall expects to hear about another funding competition - with a £5,000 grant from Shell Livewire up for grabs – next week. Voting at shell-livewire.org closes at the end of September.

He is also keen to involve small, independent cafes from the Oxford area.
