VOLUNTEERS are needed to join an independent monitoring board at Campsfield House Immigration Removal Centre in Kidlington.

The Independent Monitoring Board is made up of members of the public whose role is to monitor the day-to-day life of detainees to ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained.

They are independent of the Home Office, Immigration Service and the companies that run detention centres, including contractors Mitie, which runs Campsfield House.

The IMB is now looking for volunteers to join its seven-strong team.

No experience or qualifications are necessary as training will be provided at the centre. The only requirements are that people must live within about 20 miles of Kidlington and can spare two or three days a month.

An IMB spokeswoman said: “The IMB welcomes applications from people over 18 and are particularly keen to hear from those of working age and individuals from black and minority ethnic communities, as these categories are under-represented on the board.”

To find out more about the vacancies, visit the Independent Monitoring Board website IMB.org.uk, where the Campsfield House annual reports are logged. For further details people should call 0203 334 3265 (quoting reference: 868/Campsfield House/2018).
