TWO Oxford-based artists are collaborating on a new exhibition that blends colourful paintings with abstract sculpture.
Summertown-based painter and printmaker Manja Scott has teamed up with German born sculptor Beatrice Hoffman for the exhibition which opened at the Sewell Centre gallery in Radley College on Saturday.
'Movement and stasis' showcases the paintings of Ms Scott, who was born in Croatia but is now based in Oxford.
She lists her influences as the 20 years she spent in Africa, her early training as a dancer and the modern art she has seen across Europe.
Ms Hoffman has just finished work on a commission to be placed outside a UK hospital, a piece which visitors were able to see earlier this year when she held an open day at her Garford studio.
She said: “Themes on the interface of mythology, psychology and spirituality – mental states, relationships, human identity, maternal love and solitude are universal experiences that influence my artwork.
“I hope the viewer finds reflected in my sculptures a feeling, experience or preoccupation, and through this empathy, solace, and understanding, derive some healing."
The exhibition is open from 10am until 4pm and runs until October 11. See radley.org.uk/sewellcentre-gallery
