A town in southern Oxfordshire is set for an upgraded convenience store to reopen following a £710,000 overhaul.

The Co-op will relaunch near Wallingford on Thursday.

Stationed at 24 High Street, in Benson, the store says it will provide nine new jobs for the area.

Customers will have access to a Costa Coffee machine, an in-store bakery and self-service card only tills.

Sanna Ponnuthurai, store manager, said: “We are delighted to be undertaking such a significant investment in Benson and we’re confident that the improvements will help us to better serve the community.

"It’s an exciting time for the whole team.”

Abdul Wahid, area manager, added: “The Co-op is moving forward with a clear purpose and momentum.

"Our ambition is to ensure the store is a local hub, a real asset for the community.

“We also want shoppers to know that they can become a co-owner and member of their Co-op.

Our members make a difference locally and simply by swiping their membership card when they shop with us they are raising much needed funding for organisations in their area who contribute to improving local life.”

Benson also has a small Marks and Spencer outlet at a petrol garage, while nearby stores include Londis and Waitrose, which are both across the river, in Wallingford.
