AN OXFORDSHIRE photographer has won a prize in a national competition for this striking shot of The Daymark tower near Dartmouth.

Judges were impressed by Will Milner's stunning picture of the 80ft structure against the backdrop of the night time Devon sky.

He was awarded the Adobe Prize of the Landscape Photographer of the Year Awards.

The hollow, octagonal tower was built using limestone by the Dartmouth Harbour Commissioners in 1864 as a guide to mariners to the position of the harbour entrance.

Pete Rowbottom, from Wigan, beat thousands of entries to win the £10,000 top prize in the 12th year of the competition for his image of icy water in front of the mountain Buachaille Etive Mor.

Other award-winning pictures in the competition included a blizzard on Derbyshire's High Peak and a dramatic black and white shot of a fisherman on the rocks in Cornwall.

A free exhibition of the winning entries will be held on the Balcony at London Waterloo station from Monday November 19 for 12 weeks before going on tour to selected stations nationwide.
