IN the week we challenged camera club members to send in photos on the theme of books, we were treated to a whole world of clever and creative shots, but for effort alone this picture has to take first place.

While many members took arty snaps of their bookshelves at home or sought inspiration on the city streets, few went to the lengths of Camera Club veteran Duncan Becker who created this entire scene from scratch just for the perfect picture.

Not only that but it is also had a few local links for extra bonus points.

Explaining his creation to the Facebook group he said: "Couldn’t decide how to approach this week’s book-related theme so decided to try to create an historical still life using objects from home.

"The old books and barrister’s glasses (the arms fit over their wig) were antique market finds of my grandfather's, the kestrel feather is my daughter's, the little prayer book was a purchase from Oxfam in Summertown, the clay pipe was found in the garden, and the decanter has blackcurrant squash in it!

"Thought it created a nice vintage scene that was book-related."

We couldn't agree more – there's definitely something about the candlelit aura of academia and erudition that suggests CS Lewis or JRR Tolkien at work.

Congratulations to Mr Becker, and thanks to everyone for sending such creative contributions this week.

Moving on to next week we've already been drenched in entries for our latest theme – rain.

There are also some very beautiful shots of the gorgeous autumn morning mists we've been getting, which might just make it in as well!
