A POPULAR terrarium workshop returned to Jericho this weekend, with visitors also encouraged to take part in a plant swap.

The Common Ground Workspace on Little Clarendon Street hosted the event for the second time, where people are invited to build their own terrariums to take home.

Around 25 to 30 people of all ages attended the event, according to co-founder Gareth Lloyd, who thought up the concept with his partner Justyna Konieczny.

Mr Lloyd explained: "Its sort of like a social thing - its trying to get people away from their social media and talking to real humans again.

"It was really nice at the end because you saw real friendships had been formed. That's the part of it we're really pleased with - it has done what we set out to do with it.

"Its also a good way for people to come and learn about terrariums and what plants are suitable for them."

Mr Lloyd said that they had also donated some plants to a nearby public talking shop on housing and homelessness.

Spider plants were the most common plants at the event, though there were also some rare succulent plants - the family from which cacti hail.

Mr Lloyd continued: "It was nice to see familiar faces come back and tell us that they enjoyed it and they can't wait for us to host some more.

"The [workspace] staff are just brilliant - they make it such a nice place to host stuff."

A Facebook group is being set up to help organise the scheme.

The next plant swap is likely to be in spring 2019, but the terrarium workshops will carry on during winter.
