TWO young brothers from Oxfordshire travelled 220 miles to pay respects to their relative who died 100 years ago.

Charlie and Noah Wheatley, aged 10 and eight, from Watlington, wanted to see their great, great, great uncle Cyril Gurls’ name on the Tyne Cot war memorial at Zonnebeke in Belgium.

Private Cyril James Gurl, of the 11th Battalion, The Queen’s (Royal West Surrey Regiment) died on October 1, 1918.

This month, the brothers went with their grandparents to visit the First World War battlefields. There they got to see their uncle’s name in the memorial book and the family placed two crosses.
