FAST FOOD fans are just close to getting their hands on some McNuggets or a Big Mac in Bicester as a new McDonald's opens today.

The new drive-thru is expected to officially open its doors to customers after many residents have longed to welcome the first McDonald's restaurant to the town.

Several residents raised complaints about having to travel to either Oxford or Baynards Green as the next closest McDonald's.

The new drive-thru has been built off the A41 on the Tesco site off Lakeview Drive.

The golden M has been lowered in place and today franchisee Joanne Jones, who owns four restaurants in the local area, is expected to open the drive-thru to the public.

It is said to boast self-order kiosks, table service, and the 'click and collect' service via the McDonald's app.

She previously said the brand-new two-storey restaurant would bring about a number of new jobs for local people and it would provide a positive customer experience with the latest technology-based additions.

She added: "We are very excited to open our doors to customers and we look forward to seeing customers and staff embracing the new features in this busy part of the county."

Concerns were raised during construction about the possibility of additional traffic in a busy part of the town, as well as the potential for more litter around the restaurant.

McDonald's did not say the time in which the restaurant will open, but confirmed it did not have any specific plans to mark the occasion today.
