A CONTROVERSIAL tree planting on North Hinksey Village Green has gone ahead after residents and the parish council eventually agreed on a suitable spot for the sapling.
Residents in the small village had initially opposed the planting over fears the silver birch would impact on a space used by children to play football.

However, following discussions with parish councillors a new patch was identified and the tree planted.
Chairman of North Hinksey Parish Council David Kay said: "There are a large number of restrictions, such as overhead wires, that limit the possibilities, but I’m glad to say that we were finally able to identify an alternative position that gained everybody’s approval.”
Mr Kay and MP Layla Moran attended the planting ceremony at the beginning of November.
