A CELEBRATION event will give thanks for the life of an Oxford icon this afternoon.
The Sheldonian Theatre will host sports personalities and the friends and family of Sir Roger Bannister in a private service.
Pembroke College, where Sir Roger was a master, has organised the event to honour the life of the athlete and neurologist.
Among those attending is track and field athlete Steve Cram, one of the world's most dominant middle distance runners during the 1980s.
Oxford's Lord Mayor is also holding a reception for friends and family in the town hall later.
Sir Roger died in March aged 88.
