OXFORD United will salute the armed forces at the home match with Gillingham this weekend.

The game has been designated a 'Military Day' and serving personnel from the Army, RAF and Navy have been invited to watch the action.

It comes in the first home game since the country marked 100 years since the end of the First World War last Sunday.

The U's squad visited St George’s Barracks in Bicester last week and laid a wreath to remember those killed during the Great War.

United have promised Saturday will be a 'very special day', where all branches of the Armed Forces are brought together on the pitch at the Kassam before the game.

Fans can meet the military personnel and there will be displays and demonstrations all around the ground including bomb disposal robots, tanks and other vehicles.

As is traditional, the matchball will be delivered to the referee by Chelsea pensioners.

Supporters will also be able to watch a fly-by shortly before kick off with an impressive display promised.

Further entertainment includes a performance by the 7 Rifles band who will be helping to warm-up the crowds.

The U's have invited SSAFA - the Armed Forces charity- to organise a collection and have asked supporters to give generously.
