MEMBERS of a north Oxford hockey club have been warned not to leave valuables in their cars after two training ground break-ins.

Vehicles at Oxford Hawks' car park were targeted by thieves, with windows smashed and laptops stolen.

The club's Banbury Road facility also hosts football and is home to North Oxford Lawn Tennis Club, but the incident happened during hockey training.

An individual was seen on CCTV getting into what looked like a 'dark Volkswagen Golf' following the thefts, a club representative said.

In an email to members, the club - who were last year promoted to the national league - wrote: "Unfortunately there have been some more break-ins from cars parked in the car park during training.

"Please don't leave anything on show. There is a good chance criminals are in the car park [watching] you hide things."

This is not the first time a break-in has happened at the car park, but the club say this is the first since last year.

Hawks president Paddy Roche added: "We are taking additional steps to ensure our car park is monitored at all times and especially in the hours of darkness, following recent thefts and damage to cars on our premises.

"Anyone apprehended should be in no doubt that we will involve the police and fully support any criminal charges being laid against them."

The area has been the scene of a number of burglaries in recent months, with thieves targeting a nearby home last week and stealing alcohol, before discarding it on the patio.

In October police told local residents to take care when leaving vehicles unattended.

Thames Valley Police said a backpack containing a laptop was stolen from a Land Rover Discovery, while a handbag - containing bank cards and a driving licence - and a laptop was stolen from a Ford Fiesta.

Both cars had rear windows smashed on November 7.

Officers are investigating the thefts and are asking witnesses to call 101.
