AN ARTIST known for illustrating one of the nation’s most treasured children’s tales held a book signing and reading session in Oxford.
Axel Scheffler, who illustrated The Gruffalo, visited Blackwell’s in the Westgate Centre this afternoon.
Children and families crowded around as he read aloud extracts from books he has illustrated.
The sold-out event was plugged by Blackwell’s as a ‘very special storytime and book signing’.
An advert for the event stated: “We are absolutely thrilled to have such a phenomenal storyteller and illustrator coming to the bookshop and hope you and your child will be able to attend.
“Axel Scheffler is a star illustrator whose instantly recognizable, warm and witty illustrations have achieved worldwide acclaim and numerous awards.”
Mr Scheffler signed copies of his book Pip and Posy: The Christmas Tree.
He is best-known for The Gruffalo, which was written by Julia Donaldson and tells the story of a mouse taking a walk in the woods.
