THE Wallingford Accessible Boat Club (WABC) is sailing towards its £65,000 target to help buy a 'wheelyboat'.
A donation of almost £11,000 came from a fundraising event at a local golf club.
That progresses the total is around £30,000 and counting, but WABC is still looking for volunteers and donations
Trustees of the club are toasting the 'extraordinary' efforts of two donors who have taken the club's initiative to heart, making a personal donation and then volunteering to organize the golf day last month, when ten four-ball teams played in Reading.
John Jenkins MBE, WABC Chairman of Trustees, said: “The progress the Wallingford Accessible Boat Club is making towards its goals is astonishing.
"In just over three months we are over one third of the way towards our target. We have had amazing levels of support from all segments of the community which is so encouraging."
The volunteer-led organisation encourage able-bodied and disabled people into the water. The wheelyboat allows disabled people into the water through a wheelchair-accessible powerboat, the Coulam Wheelyboat V20, which the club says has been proven on other UK waterways.
Mr Jenkins continued: "We are very thankful and remain optimistic about our planned July 2019 opening.”
