BREATHTAKING landscape scenes and beautiful close-ups of creatures dominated this week’s plentiful Camera Club selection.

The subject of ‘nature’ inspired one of the largest responses to a theme we have had so far, with hundreds of entries all boldly vying to catch our attention.

And that, they certainly did - from frosty landscapes to incredibly crisp shots of animal encounters, the array of impressive photos was quite overwhelming.

With almost 30 making our shortlist, it is a shame there is only room for 12 on this double-page.

One of the images that brought a smile to our faces was Darrell Godliman’s snap of a cricket at Cotswold Wildlife Park.

Posting on Facebook, he wrote: “Ironically, it wasn’t one of their displays, but taken just outside the entrance.”

Raging oceans also made an appearance in our photographers’ posts this week, including Brian Daniels’s image of waves crashing against the pebbles at Seaton Beach.

Emma Bourton took an equally atmospheric photo, depicting the power of a small waterfall as it poured into a misty pool below.

Several people also posted pictures of exotic scenes and animals from holidays abroad, from Caribbean sunsets to adorable seal puppies.

John Parsons’s photo of the Aurora Borealis - also known as the Northern Lights - perfectly captured the alien-like green and blue smudges as they danced across the night sky.

Io Nutz received lots of praise from fellow Camera Club members for his image of the sun shining on a field as a sheepdog looked on.

Asked where it was taken, he replied: “This is a view from my back garden in Romania. I’m in Oxford now and I really miss it sometimes.”

We also loved Barry Green’s photo of purple flowers shrouded by a perfectly intact cobweb.

Camera Clubbers, please do not be disappointed if your photo was not featured - it was tough to choose this week, as we had so many favourites.

Check out our Camera Club spread on our website, where more nature photos will be uploaded. See tomorrow’s Oxford Mail for our winner.

The next theme is ‘my favourite place’.
