BLACK Friday was given a delicious twist in Oxford today for charity.

For a fourth year running, Pieminister in Oxford’s Covered Market once again hosted its Black Pie Day.

This year the firm went one step further and served up black charcoal-pastry pies to help raise funds for housing and homelessness charity Shelter.

Vegan pie Kevin – a mushroom, tomato and red wine filling – and Moo, a British beef steak and Gem Ale pie, were both revamped for the day.

Pies cost £5 each and every penny will go direct to the charity.

Andy Harris, director of fundraising at Shelter said: “This is such a fun idea and a great way to spend money on Black Friday.

“By buying one of these pies you can show your support for our fight against homelessness and bad housing.

“The money raised will help us provide advice and support to the thousands of families facing the grim prospect of homelessness this winter.”

Pieminister is also selling its Christmas pies now including the 100 per cent plant-based Deep and Crisp and Vegan pie that has been added to the menu.

It is a creamy vegan ‘turkey’ pie with celeriac, smoked garlic and sherry.
