LORRIES leaving a housing development are spreading dust all over village roads almost two months after agreeing to rectify the problem, residents claim.

Bellway is building 116 homes across two sites in North Leigh, near Witney, but drew criticism earlier this year for its 'inconsiderate' failure to clean dust off trucks' wheels.

In October, site staff began cleaning the wheels, but photos taken by residents last week suggested the issue was as bad as ever.

Recent wet weather has turned the dust to mud, with New Yatt Road, which runs between the village and Witney, especially affected.

Harry St John, West Oxfordshire district councillor for North Leigh, is hoping to meet with the site manager this week.

The councillor, who previously called the issue an 'absolute disgrace', said: "They just don't seem to be taking any notice of our concerns."

Residents became concerned about the impact of dust being spread across the village during the dry, hot summer earlier this year.

Mr St John previously said: “People’s windows, wheels and cars are covered in dust and when we got some rain the roads were absolutely smothered in mud.

“It was potentially really dangerous for drivers because it’s quite a bendy bit of road."

Bellway was approached for comment.
