THE latest crimes reported across Oxfordshire include an object being fired at a vehicle and £20,000 worth of lead being stolen from a church roof.

Object fired at vehicle causes damage

An unknown object was fired at a vehicle while it was being driven down the road in Standlake, near Witney. 

The incident happened in Downs Road on December 2 at around 6pm. 

The victim was driving their vehicle at the time of impact and police said the vehicle was left damaged. 

Purse theft in Witney

Police have issued guidance to shoppers after a purse was stolen from a woman in Witney.

The force said the theft occurred this afternoon in the town centre and the offenders are unknown at this stage. 

Particularly during the busy shopping period, people should keep handbags and purses close by and zip them up where possible, officers said. 

£20,000 worth of lead snatched

Police are visiting rural churches after £20,000 worth of lead was taken from the roof of St Peter and St Paul Church in Broadwell, near Witney. 

The theft occurred between December 4 and December 6.

Officers said it was the second reported lead theft in West Oxfordshire in the last few weeks. 

Extra patrols are being organised and church leaders are being given security advice.

Residents are being asked to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons or vehicles parked by churches. 

Arsonists target children's playground

A dog waste bin was set on fire in Ironstones Play Park, Banbury at around 7.40pm on Sunday. 

Police are treating the incident as a suspected arson.
