OXFORD Mail Camera Club spoiled us with spectacular photos over 2018– and ended on a high as snappers came together in the city at night to take some final shots of the year.

Keen members of the club, which started in 2017, met in the city centre to shoot nighttime scenes of some familiar landmarks, and were even joined by a few new photographers.

Club co-ordinator Bryan Robertson said it was nice to see people feel pleased with their photographs.

He said: “Everybody had a good time and most learned something from others who were happy to share their knowledge.”

The club is formed of photographers, both amateur and professional, who enjoy exploring the beauty of Oxfordshire with their cameras.

Mr Robertson said he was happy with the success of the group this year.

He said: “It has been great seeing people come together. We’ve all had a good time taking photos in and around Oxford and helping each other out. It’s proved worthwhile. The real highlights are when people laugh and enjoy themselves.”

One of Mr Robertson’s highlights of the year was a wildlife photography session at the Cotswold Wildlife Park near Burford.

He said: “That was a fantastic shoot because people took photos that they didn’t expect to take. There was so much there for us to see and be creative with, so we definitely would like to go back again.”

There are many camera clubs in Oxfordshire which meet up regularly and discuss photography, but the Oxford Mail club takes a more practical approach.

Mr Robertson said: “We don’t sit and have weekly meetings or do workshops, we just go out, get together and have fun taking photos. It’s easier that way. And it’s better to learn as you practice than to talk about it.”

The group has grown from just 150 to almost 1,000 members.
