SAFETY concerns have been given paramount importance in plans for a major school expansion.

Managers of St Blaise CofE in Milton near Abingdon are planning to build a new block with four extra classrooms, extend the kitchen, expand the car park and the playing fields.

In the final designs published this week, the planners said they chose the location for the new classroom block because it had the best link to the pedestrian access at the front of the site for dropping off and picking up younger children.

They also said the 'orientation of the building' was 'developed with regard to safeguarding the children and the location of the external play areas accessed off the new classrooms'.

Oxfordshire County Council, which runs the school, has planned the expansion largely because of hundreds of homes being built in the area.

A consultation on the plans runs until the end of January.
