THE Archbishop of Canterbury will visit an Oxford college for the first time since he assumed office.
Justin Welby will preach at a service of Choral Evensong in the Chapel of Merton College on Sunday January, 27.
The archbishop, who has been in the role in 2013, is also the college’s visitor - the supreme ecclesiastical authority in the college.
Until the nineteenth century it was the visitor who chose the warden, the head of the college, from three names submitted to him by the fellows.
The previous archbishop, Rowan Williams, preached in the chapel in 2006.
