Here's our round-up of the latest planning applications that have been submitted in Oxford this week:

B&B plans for gents’ toilets back on

PLANS to turn former public toilets in Oxford city centre into bed and breakfast rooms are back on.

Developers shelved proposals to convert the men’s toilets in St Giles into short term letting units in October following feedback from the council and a number of heritage organisations.

Oxford Mail:

However, this week new plans have been submitted which, as well as the below-ground accommodation units, would see two glass canopies built over the existing stair wells.

FIRST PLAN -  B&B revamp for gents’ toilets in city centre shelved

Owners Harries-Jones Limited, who also run the Galaxie Hotel in Summertown, said the facility will add ‘quality and choice’ to the short-let accommodation market in the city.

Builders’ compound

TEN temporary buildings could be built in South Parks Road in north Oxford as work on Oxford University’s new Biochemistry complex continues.

The University says the two-storey buildings would be located to the rear of The Observatory, on land currently used as the University Parks plant nursery.

Oxford Mail:

The buildings, which would be in place for up to 30 months, would provide changing facilities, canteen and office and meeting space for construction crews.

No parking for cars is included in the plans however there will be space for 14 bicycles.

Though the site is in a conservation area the University says because the proposals are temporary, any harm will be ‘short lived’.

Fish migration

THE Environment Agency has submitted plans to create a natural channel route to help fish migrate between the Bulstake Stream and the River Thames in Botley.

Oxford Mail:

The man-made channel, near Tumbling Bay bathing area, would be installed to the rear of Botley Park and has been designed to ‘replicate a natural stream’ creating a diverse habitat for fish and other animals.

The plans also include a timber bridge over the channel.

Flat plans for empty shop

A CORNER shop in Cowley which has stood empty for the last decade could be converted into a one-bed flat, if plans are approved.

Oxford Mail:

The developer is proposing to change the dilapidated shop on the corner of Bullingdon and St Mary’s Road into a spacious one-bedroom open living apartment.

Plans for nine-bed home in Cowley

PLANS have been submitted to create a nine-bedroom house in Iffley Road.

The existing building at 223 Iffley Road, forms a short terrace of three townhouses between Aston Street and Stanley Road.

It is believed the building had previously been illegally sub-divided into a mix of self contained flats and bedsit flats over five floors.

Oxford Mail:

The change of use application would allow the whole building to legally become one single house of multiple occupancy.
