TWO famous comedians called on Oxford Fashion Studio to help them strut their stuff as they took to the catwalk on television.

Fashionistas Tiffany Saunders and Carl Anglim prepared stand-ups Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan to walk the New York Fashion Week runway for their Sky One show.

The programme, Rob and Romesh Vs, aired last Friday and saw Ms Saunders and Mr Anglim, the studio's co-directors, introduce the comedians to the world of fashion.

Ms Saunders, who grew up in Witney, revealed the comedy pair were surprisingly committed to their brief venture in the industry.

She said: “They were great fun and took it very seriously.

“Both of them wanted to do it well so they were very respectful about the way everything is done.

“They found it incredibly welcoming and had high appreciation for art and design.”

“Treating them as if they were models was hilarious.”

Oxford Fashion Studio is now based in west London, but the company started its life in the city that bears its name in January 2009.

The company has enjoyed a rapid rise since its first show at Oxford Fashion Week 2009, exhibiting its designs in Paris, Milan and New York.

This attracted the interest of the producers of Rob and Romesh Vs, who approached Oxford Fashion Studio with a view to guiding the comedians through their mission.

The show sees Mr Beckett and Mr Ranganathan explore a different topic each episode, with Usain Bolt and American Football starring in the previous two editions this series.

The pair visited the studio for fittings and rehearsals and Mr Anglim, the company's founder, revealed he was a little starstruck at the beginning.

He said: “When they first got in touch I knew who they were so I was a fan at the beginning.

“We met them in person and they were such wonderfully warm and nice people.

“It’s sometimes easy to forget what it’s like from the outside and it was refreshing to have people challenging their existing preconceptions.”

The comedians took to the catwalk at last September's New York Fashion Week, although Ms Saunders and Mr Anglim have just returned from the event's latest edition.

It was the company's 133rd show, the latest in an incredible journey since Mr Anglim founded the studio aged 22.

He lived in Oxford from 2004 to 2014, but is now based nearer the studio in London.

Ms Saunders began by modelling in shows back in 2010, but joined the production side five years ago.

Despite appearances on fashion television shows, this is the first time the company has been featured on mainstream TV.

The show was broadcast when the pair were still in New York and Ms Saunders revealed she had not yet had a chance to catch up.

The 28-year-old is looking forward to watching the studio on TV, but admits a career on the catwalk might be beyond the two comedians.

She said: “I’m not sure if they’ll head to the runway again, but you never know.”
