A PRIMARY school has asked for permission to keep using a Portakabin classroom for another year following the collapse of Carillion.

Marcham CofE School near Abingdon has made the application while managers continue to plan a new permanent classroom building.

In documents submitted to the county council, staff explained: "The temporary building in question is required onsite for a further period of 52 weeks from the current expiry of 31.07.19 whilst a permanent building is planned and constructed.

"Delays to the permanent project have been caused by Carillion going into liquidation and the fact that another Contractor has not been appointed to replace Carillion due to funding.

"The result is that Oxfordshire County Council requires an extension to the planning on the temporary classroom from Portakabin for another year."
