BOXING legend Frank Bruno has been treated at hospital in Oxfordshire for pneumonia.

The former heavyweight world champion was taken to the Horton General Hospital in Banbury on Sunday after falling ill during a speaking event in Yorkshire.

The 57-year-old was discharged yesterday, with his agent Dave Davies sending a message of thanks to the hospital from Bruno’s Twitter account.

The tweet from his account said: "Hello its Dave Davies, Franks agent, here just to advise as we are getting calls.

"Frank has contracted Pneumonia.

"We must say a big thank you to the staff of The Horton General hospital, in Banbury who have treated him.

"He now needs a few weeks rest."

Bruno is widely regarded as one of Britain's greatest ever boxers after a career in which he won 40 of his 45 fights, 38 by knockout.

He has also been recognised for his work to combat the stigma associated with mental health during his own battle with bipolar.

Hundreds of fans have wished the champion well on social media since the news of his illness was announced.
