STAR power helped an Oxford mental health charity raise more than £30,000 in one night.

Hollywood actor Jeremy Irons hosted Restore's 'Auction of Promises' , which was attended by 130 people.

Held on February 28 at St Hugh’s College, guests enjoyed canapés made by Restore’s patron and celebrity chef Sophie Grigson and piano music performed by Massimo Nicolosi.

The famous actor then took to Restore’s stage to share anecdotes and auction the sale of more than 60 donated lots, which included a week for two in a Tuscan apartment, a lunch and tour of Pinewood Studios, afternoon tea at the Randolph, six nations rugby tickets and even personalised voice and video messages by Mr Irons.

Oxford Mail:

He said: “Like all great charities, Restore is feeling the pinch because of austerity and cuts and so we have to fill the gap.

"We had a great time with some fabulous lots, and we raised money for an extraordinary organisation which helps people to garden, to bake, to do carpentry, to mix with other people, and retrain to take up a job and hold it down. Restore is a remarkable organisation.”

Chief executive Lesley Dewhurst said the charity 'relied heavily' on fundraising activities to run its services, which supports people across the county with mental illnesses.

She added: "That’s why we’re always eager to work with people, community groups, and businesses to fundraise.

"Restore can only meet the growing demand for mental health support with the help of our community and we’re so grateful to Jeremy for all of his fantastic support. He’s such a star.”
