AN eight-year-old Oxford boy has already smashed his fundraising target for a homeless charity, ahead of a long walk on Oxford canal.

Bobby MacKenzie, who is walking seven miles for Homeless Oxfordshire on Saturday, March 23, has already raised £160 - strolling past his original target of £100.

The home-schooled student, who lives on the Canal, said he was moved to action by seeing homeless people in the city. He explained: "I want to raise lots of money to help the homeless. I am taking on this challenge to raise money to help as many people as possible who don't have a place to call home, so they can have clothes and food and money."

Ahead of the walk, which starts in Thrupp, Dad Richard Mackenzie said: "We are so proud of Bobby, he has a very beautiful character and a very thoughtful heart.

"It has not surprised us that he chose to do something so positive for local homeless people or that he has smashed his fundraising target as he is a very driven little chap."

Homeless Oxfordshire are the largest provider of supported temporary accommodation in the county, providing safety, shelter and support to people recovering from homelessness.
