FOLLOWING a poll The Oxford Mail conducted, readers have voted for budget brands to come to the city centre.

B&M, a discount store, came out on top of a poll on our website as the brand people would most like, with Poundland in second place followed by Greggs, Matalan and Savers.

And it's good news for fans of B&M's bargains - the discount store has said there is a possibility a store could open in Oxford city centre as it is looking to expand in Oxfordshire.

A spokesperson said: “We’re delighted that the Oxford Mail readers would love to see another B&M in the area.

“We aim to open 50 brand new stores a year, so we’re always looking at potential sites and Oxfordshire is an area we are looking to invest in.”

Although readers would like to see Greggs come to the city centre, the bakery has already said it has no immediate plans to open in the city centre.

There are currently discount stores in Oxford, including a B&M, Poundland, Matalan, Greggs and Savers in Cowley, but none are in the city centre.

The centre typically has more ‘high-end’ shops and caterers, but people want this to change.

A reader commented on Facebook saying: “Oxford is such an expensive place and there should be a diverse range of shops. Not everyone in Oxford can afford to shop in high-end stores.”

Other people would like to see shops such as The Works and Card Factory.
