ALBION fans are not only celebrating a trip to Wembley but also one of the players who played a key part in getting them there.

Seagulls fans took to social media to declare today – March 20 – as Solly March day.

March, the player not the month, wears the number 20 on the back of his shirt for Albion.

The 24-year-old winger sparked mass celebration on Sunday as his 94th minute free kick flew into the net against Millwall.

The goal completed the Albion’s remarkable six-minute turn around from two goals down to levelling the match and forcing extra time.

The Seagulls went on to win the match 5-4 on penalties, lining up their first FA Cup trip to Wembley Stadium since 1983 in the process.

March also picked up the assist as Jurgen Locadia scored the goal that made it 2-1 and put Albion back in the game.

In the aftermath fans took to Twitter and Facebook to praise the homegrown star for his efforts. having only joined the match as a 67th minute substitute.

Brighton and Hove Albion celebrated their young star on Twitter, posting a squad photo of the team where every face has been replaced by that of March, above.

The image received a great response from Albion fans.

Twitter user Emma said: “Probably a niche market but this would make a great birthday card.”

But it proved too much for some with Sean the Seagull adding: “As much as I like Solly March, this photo is the stuff of nightmares.”

One thing that particularly drew the attention of the fans was the fact the club decided to leave left-back Ezequiel Schelotto’s hair on the photoshopped image.

It is unclear whether the idea to celebrate Solly March day had been a long-term plan.

But at just after 6pm on Tuesday, March 19, Twitter user Duncan Lees posted, saying that his daughter had declared March 20 as Solly March day.

Fans have been sharing their favourite moments from the winger’s Albion career on the social media site.

These including, of course, Sunday’s last minute goal against Millwall, his spectacular strike in a pre-season friendly against Norwich City and adding the second goal as Brighton officially won promotion to the Premier League with a 2-0 win over Wigan Athletic.

March, alongside Lewis Dunk, is a player who has come through the ranks at the Albion to become a regular feature in the side.

Eastbourne-born March grew up in Sussex, coming through the youth ranks at Eastbourne Borough and then Lewes.

The Seagulls then signed him in 2011 from Lewes, becoming a stand-out member of the development squad.

It wasn’t long before March impressed enough to break into the first team.

He made his full Brighton debut in January 2014, in a third round FA Cup game against Reading.

He would then go on to score his first goal for the club in the fourth round of the same competition against Port Vale.

March has become a regular feature in the Seagulls squad since the arrival of Chris Hughton as manager and has made more than 100 appearances for the Albion.
