Oxford Mail:

 • PLANS to revamp an empty unit with oak-wood furnishings and a bright yellow shop front were submitted by luxury hand cream brand and high-street giant L'Occitane.

If Oxford City Council gives them the go-ahead to kit out the empty unit in the Westgate Centre, then the brand will make the move from Cornmarket Street.

Bosses at the chain have submitted two planning applications – one is to add the iconic sign at the front of the shop, the other is to switch-up the insides so it fits with the chain’s theme.

 • A bank on the high-street will make its outside look more swish, if plans are given the go ahead by Oxford City Council.

Developers at Barclays Bank on Turl Street want to give the outside of the shop a facelift.

They will replace the granite with new granite, switch up the cladding and double-up the glazing.

The three-storey building will only have work done to the outside, to ‘enhance the overall appearance’.

 • Plans to knock down part of a listed building and renovate it to create a five-bedroom house have been submitted to the council this week.

The Grade II listed cottage was built in the 19th century.

In the early 20th century a two-storey brick extension was added on and in the 1970s another extension was built alongside a porch.

Now planners want to strip-back an ‘insignificant’ part of the first extension and ‘enhance’ the listed building to make it bigger.

Oxford Spires Four Pillars Hotel in Abingdon is made up of 181 guest rooms.

As it is, only eight of the rooms in the hotel just off Abingdon Road, have air-con.

 • An Oxford University college wants to make an entrance more accessible.

As it is the main entrance to St Cross College is on St Giles, which had big stone steps making it impossible for people who are wheelchair bound.

However, the back entrance – which  used to be a bin-alley – does  have a shallow ramp.

And plans have been submitted to upgrade this to a motorised door way.

It will take over the unit at 21 High Street, where the fashion shop Aspire used to trade from.

Planners have asked the council if they can re-paint the front of the Grade II listed building, to fit in with the chain’s theme of black.

They also want to replace the shop’s signage and re=install the toilet.
