A LONG-serving school staff member hailed as an 'inspiration' has retired.

Gosford Hill School in Kidlington has said goodbye to its senior assistant headteacher Richard Belmont, who has worked at the secondary school for 16 years.

In a newsletter sent to parents last week, the academy's headteacher Nigel Sellars praised Mr Belmont for his 'calm, resilient, compassionate and nurturing approach to his work.'

He wrote: "Current colleagues describe him as an inspiration and are deeply touched at having had the opportunity to work alongside someone who has given so much of his life, energy and commitment not only to the school, but also to the community that we serve.

"We are grateful that you have been part of our lives. Your legacy will continue in school for years to come."

Mr Belmont joined Gosford Hill School in 2003 as a head of year, and was appointed assistant head in 2006.

He was promoted to the senior role in 2014, according to the letter.
