OXFORD has been named among the top five places for the best 'staycation' in the UK.

Families have no need to rush off for the Easter weekend and travel elsewhere according to van lease company Crusader Vehicles who ranked the country's top ten destinations.

Oxford came in at number 4 overall as the firm looked for the 'perfect combination of good weather, pubs, accomodation, and distance from London'.

Among the various factors it said make a holiday, the figures showed Oxford reportedly came in as one of the cheapest to stay with an average two night hotel stay about £60.

Adding this to the average cost for food and drink for two, and the cost of a pint - reportedly £4.57 in the city - brought Oxford up to second spot for cheapest staycation.

But overall the city was just pipped to the post by Bath in third place, Southampton in second spot, and taken the title as best 'staycation' destination was Chelmsford in Essex.

Oxford, and its almost 600 restaurants and pubs, did however beat Cambridge which placed in fifth.
