ONE of Oxford’s oldest pubs is expected to reopen tomorrow.
West Berkshire Brewery has bought the lease of the George Street hostelry The Grapes from The City Pub Company and it has been closed for refurbishment.
After contractors painted the pub’s exterior a bright blue, it has now been painted a darker shade of blue.

Pub manager Romy Hewitt, 25, said earlier: “We are really looking forward to welcoming customers on April 23 from 10.30am.”
The pub, which was painted green before the refurbishment, will sell craft beer and there will also be bar snacks including pork and chorizo meatballs.
Opening hours will be from 10.30am to late seven days a week.

The changes to the interior are not expected to be too radical as the pub’s vintage look was restored in 2017.
The pub, popular with theatre goers, dates back to the 1820s, and West Berkshire Brewery has promised a ‘sympathetic refurb’.
The company said it was planning ‘a sympathetic refurb to this beautiful historic building which has been serving the community for about 200 years’.
It added there would be seven hand pulls and 12 keg taps, plus a wide selection of bottles and cans from the local area.
Pint Shop in George Street closed suddenly in February.
