A STONECLOUGH resident is a one-woman Womble doing her bit for the environment by hosting weekly litter pick-up events around South Bolton.
Sylvia Crossley, 56, a carer, has been using Facebook to advertise and recruit volunteers for her clean-up events which take place every Monday.
The events currently take place around the areas of Farnworth, Kearsley and Stoneclough.
The most recent litter pick-up was this week in South Avenue in Kearsley, where 20 bags worth of rubbish were collected by Mrs Crossley and her team.
Last week, Mrs Crossley and her volunteers also tackled the woods opposite Kearsley Academy and collected a total of 65 bags.
Mrs Crossley is an environmental enthusiast and provides all the clean-up equipment for her team.
She said that it is “adrenaline” that drives her to tidy up her community.
Recently she went solo to stage a clean-up by herself in Bolton Road, sweeping up the paths to the subway and shifting three carts of soil and weeds.
Speaking about her passion for what she does, Mrs Crossley said: “I just enjoy it so much. I just love to get out there and make a difference,”
She added: “The state of our areas drastically needs to change, and I want more members of the community to get involved in action”.
