A WORLD record-breaking runner sprinted around an Oxford school field just two days after winning the London Marathon.

Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge visited pupils at John Henry Newman Academy in Littlemore last week, as part of his role as an ambassador for the Daily Mile scheme.

The national project encourages children to walk, run or jog at school for 15 minutes a day, with the aim of covering a mile.

Mr Kipchoge, who was recently named the scheme's ambassador, joined pupils at the academy last Tuesday.

Tom Linden, head of wellbeing at the school, said: "It was fantastic the way Eliud spoke about positivity being the key to success and letting your light shine.

"He has given us a challenge, when asked by a child who he would like to win the marathon in the future, he responded by saying ‘one of you’ - so watch this space!"

"We will continue to work closely with the Daily Mile and their ambassadors, showcasing our love for learning alongside physical activity and wellbeing."
