GRAFFITI scrawled on a new Didcot skate park will delay its opening even further, police say.

The skate facility at Great Western Park was due for completion in summer 2017, but construction is still ongoing.

Thames Valley Police is now investigating graffiti tags that were sprayed on the concrete ramps between Tuesday and Wednesday.

A post on the force's South and Vale Facebook page this morning said: "Offenders have damaged a skate park at Great Western Park, Didcot, further delaying it opening to the public.

"If you recognise the tag or have information on the offender please phone 101 or report to Crimestroppers on 0800 555111 anonymously.

The skate park is part of community facilities Taylor Wimpey promised as part of the huge housing development, which also include four tennis courts and a multi-use games area.

On Wednesday a woman posted about the GWP skate park on a public Facebook group called Bringing Didcot Together.

She wrote: "Just to let you all know I spoke to a workman today [and] he said, the more you break in the longer they will make you wait, as you are vandalising the park and have no respect.

"At weekends they cut the fence and smash bottles."

It is the latest skate park to fall victim to vandals - last month a fire had to be extinguished at Carterton Skate Park after land there was set ablaze.

In January, vandals took a pick axe to the £150,000 Bicester skate park in an attack police described as 'mindless.'
