OVER £5 million worth of new buses are joining Stagecoach’s Oxfordshire fleet this summer.

The bus company has announced that 21 new buses will launch on the S1 and S2 routes operating between Witney and Oxford and will start running from August.

The brand-new MMC E400 double decker buses are being introduced as part of a £90million Stagecoach bus and coach investment nationwide.

Each bus was built in the UK and will replace the current Stagecoach Gold fleet which was introduced ten years ago.

Stagecoach Oxford managing director, Chris Coleman said: “We are immensely proud of the service we operate between Witney and Oxford on the S1 and S2 routes. This was the first route to offer customers a Stagecoach Gold service in 2009 so we’re delighted that we’re following tradition and launching our new fleet with added customer facilities on the very same bus routes."

Oxford Mail:

With the increasing concern about reducing carbon emissions in Oxford and the county, all buses will be fitted with the latest Euro 6 engines, reducing emissions.

They will also have onboard customer facilities including USB charging points, audio and visual next stop bus announcements.

Mr Coleman added: “This is a large investment for the county which enables us to deliver even cleaner, newer buses with improved customer facilities.

"With the audio and visual next stop announcements on board we hope to help our customers navigate their journey more comfortably, particularly those customers who may be new to the area, visiting or customers that require a little more help with bus travel.”

In the most recent Bus Passenger Satisfaction Survey carried out by independent watchdog, Transport Focus, 94 per cent of Stagecoach customers in Oxfordshire were satisfied with their Stagecoach experience.

Mr Coleman said: "This is a huge accolade and one which we hope is cemented further by this huge investment.”

The company's number 11 service which serves villages in between Oxford and Witney such as North Leigh and Eynsham, is still set to be cancelled on May 27.

The service is used by 35 people on average each day and is no longer 'commercially viable'.
