A NATIONAL award for custody visiting has been awarded to Thames Valley Police.
The Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner (OPCC) for Thames Valley has been recognised for the quality of its independent custody visiting scheme.
The inaugural Independent Custody Visiting Association presented OPCC with a Code Compliant Award at its Quality Assurance awards ceremony at the House of Lords on May 15.
ALSO READ: Thames Valley Police losing more than 50 officers a yearThames Valley's scheme is delivered by volunteers who make unannounced visits to police custody to check on the rights, entitlements, well-being and dignity of detainees held in police custody.
They then report their findings to the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and hold the Chief Constable to account.
Anthony Stansfeld, PCC for Thames Valley, said: “All independent custody visitors are volunteers and we wouldn’t be able to deliver the scheme without their continued commitment and support."
