OXFORD'S George Street has reopened after police arrested a man on suspicion of a 'public order offence'.
Ambulance crews had been called 40 minutes before police, amid suggestions that a man had fainted.
But police said the man they arrested had been 'making threats'.
Thames Valley Police spokesman David Marsh explained: "Officers attended George Street, Oxford at 1.10pm today after a report of a male making threats.
"A man was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence and was taken into police custody."
He continued: "There were no injuries.
"George Street was closed while officers dealt with the incident. It has now re-opened."
Oxford Mail reporter James Roberts said he had been told that a man had 'collapsed' and that the road was closed for a short time so an ambulance could get to the patient.

He added that the road has now reopened after police officers started directing traffic. One police car and an ambulance have now left the area.
Michelle Archer, Communications Manager for South Central Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 12.29pm to George Street to reports of a medical emergency.
"We sent a rapid response vehicle and ambulance crew to the scene and no-one was taken to hospital."
Three local travel companies said that the city centre road was shut and that two emergency services were on the scene.
Earlier, Oxford Bus Company called it a 'police incident', while Stagecoach Oxford said it had heard that an ambulance was on the scene.
Due to a police incident on George Street the road has been closed in both directions. Passengers for the 300 and 500 Park and Ride services are advised to board from Beaumont Street outside the Ashmolean Museum. Apologies for any inconvenience caused.
