BUSINESSES from across Witney marked the relaunch of an organisation that aims to help the town's firms thrive.

Dozens gathered to celebrate the reinvigorated Witney Chamber of Commerce, which has a new chairman and committee and 'new plans'.

Chairman, Eleanor Martin, spoke of the need for businesses to have a 'strong and united voice' in the face of the 'many pressures' affecting the high street.

She added: "It is hoped that the new chamber can provide an opportunity for businesses to share advice and experience, and also make clear the town’s excellent offer to other businesses, and to residents and visitors alike.”

Last Tuesday's relaunch began at Oxbrew in the town centre, before guests moved to the SOTA gallery.

West Oxfordshire District Council leader, James Mills, called the link with businesses 'extremely important', while Witney mayor, Duncan Enright, said it was 'crucial for the development of business in the town'.

The chamber's next meeting is on July 2.
