CAMPAIGNERS concerned about the so-called 'hostile environment' being created for refugees and asylum seekers in the UK are holding a public meeting today.
Organised by Justice for African and African Caribbean People and Leys Matters, the event in the Cuddesdon Way Community Cafe in Blackbird Leys runs from 4pm until 6pm.
Guests will hear from speakers including city councillor Shaista Aziz, as well as human rights lawyers and representatives from campaign groups including Together with Migrant Children.
It comes after the Windrush scandal last year that saw people who have lived in the UK for decades deported by the home office.
County councillor Deborah Mcilveen said people in the estate had been left scared by what had happened and were fearful to go to the doctors or use other services for fear they may be deported.
MP Anneliese Dodds has pledged to help anyone who is unsure about their status.
