AN ice skating rink has announced its temporary closure will take longer than expected.

Planet Ice Blackburn closed on May 6 after a hump in the centre of the ice rink needed removing.

Rink bosses posted on Facebook telling customers the refurbishments meant that they would have to stay closed for a month longer than planned.

Originally due to open at the end of June, the new estimated date for the reopening is the end of July. Currently, the ice rink is taking bookings for August, which can still be made in person or over the phone.

A spokesman for the ice rink said: “The required repair works to the ice pad have turned out to be more extensive than first thought and therefore will take longer than originally anticipated.

“Planet Ice is committed to undertake the ice pad refurbishment in Blackburn to the highest possible standard and work is progressing well to achieve this.

“The work being undertaken currently will ensure the future of Planet Ice Blackburn going forward and will result in a much-improved ice skating surface, for all user groups including public skating, hockey and figure skating.”
